I think the best dolly moves are ones that maximize the space in the frame. Many young filmmakers dolly left or right of the action, but dollying with an angle or even better, dollying and panning camera at the same time creates an awesome visual dynamic.

Don't move unless their is a reason. What is the camera motivation? Depends on the story, the scene, the subtext.
The best use of a dolly was in Alfred Hitchcock's Rope. That is my opinion.

Just like the jump zoom of the late 60's, dolly tracks right and left are standard fare now. And just like jump zooms, the dolly-moves fad will fade. Too bad, because when used at the right moment, as expressed elsewhere in this queue, it can be a powerful tool.

i don't know what a dolly move is but if you say it's too bad that it will fade then i doubt it will. Ya, great sexy clothes can fade because they are abused my overweight people, but that doesn't mean that sexy clothes are gone for good. Ya people might associate low cut jeans with a muffin top, but the low cut jean on the right girl is an awesome sight. I will use the dolly move if it works with film.

I used to know a rather heavy lady named Dolly. She came with a muffin top. We met at a seedy bar and she smoked filterless cigarettes. I liked that she drank Gin. I don't like to waste time either. To me a Dolly move means fast and action packed. Am i right?
