When properly executed, a matte painting creates the visual effect or illusion of an environment that would otherwise be too expensive to build, film, photograph or visit.

Eric Chauvin, M.S., has been nominated for 8 Emmy awards and has won twice. He began his career at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) as a matte painter on Steven Spielberg’s Hook; then on Memoir’s of an Invisible Man and Star Trek VI.
In November of 1995, he moved to Washington State and started his own effects facility, BlackPool Studios. There he has worked on numerous feature films, television shows and commercials including: Smallville, Alias, Star Trek Enterprise, X-Files, Stargate SG-1, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Babylon 5, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Texas Rangers, Vertical Limit, Bicentennial Man, Contact, Starship Troopers, Return of the Jedi (re-release), Empire Strikes Back (re-release), Star Wars (re-release), Congo, Forest Gump, The Mask, Mission Impossible, Pirates of Treasure Island, Get Smart, Alien Trespass, and others.
 Recently Chauvin has moved into not only creating the finished work for feature films, but working as the Visual Effects Supervisor as well.
